When it comes to the electric vehicle market, Tesla pretty much rules the roost when it comes to technology. Tesla makes not only one of the most popular electric vehicles on the market, it’s also one of the most expensive, and one of the most technologically advanced. Tesla’s Model S will go over 200 miles per charge under normal operating conditions and has all sorts of technology inside.
The problem with the Model S from your average driver’s perspective is that it’s incredibly expensive at around $100,000. That might not always be the case though with Tesla CEO Elon Musk taking to Twitter recently to tease about Tesla’s future vision for a more affordable electric vehicle. Musk teases about a vehicle that would compete with the BMW 3-Series in size and cost.
Musk says that the vehicle won’t show up for at least three or four years and that it would cost about $30,000 in today’s money. He also says the vehicle would have a 200+ mile driving range and “some really cool tech that we can’t talk about yet.” That really cool tech could include something along the lines of the ability to exchange empty battery packs for fully charged ones to extend the electric driving range. That is a trick that Tesla recently hinted at in an SEC filing and such a system would revolutionize the electric vehicle market.
