TAG Heuer has created the world’s fastest chronograph watch, which is capable of measuring out 1/1000ths of a second at 500 Hz. The new TAG Heuer Mikrotimer is equipped with a small balance wheel inside, which goes back and forth 3.6 million times an hour.
To put that in perspective, when you compare this to a Rolex watch whose balance wheel goes back and forth around 28,800 beats per hour, you can easily see the difference in technology used to create the two watches. View a video after the jump to see the TAG Heuer Mikrotimer in action.
Unprecedented Precision
This video shows TAG Heuer’s Mikrotimer Flying 1000 Concept watch in action. This mechanical watch times things to 1/1000th of a second – 300 times faster than a human blink. The Mikrotimer’s precision is not just a feat of engineering but a leap forward in the world of horology. Traditional chronographs, even those from prestigious brands, typically measure time to the nearest 1/10th or 1/100th of a second. The Mikrotimer’s ability to measure 1/1000th of a second sets a new benchmark.
The Wrist Watch Review website sums up the design by saying: “In short, this watch is a completely mechanical device that runs faster than a sports car engine and comes in a package about as big as a silver dollar.” This comparison to a sports car engine is not an exaggeration. The Mikrotimer’s balance wheel oscillates at a rate that is almost incomprehensible, making it a marvel of modern watchmaking.
Technological Marvel
The Mikrotimer’s technological advancements do not stop at its balance wheel. The watch also features a dual-chain architecture, which separates the chronograph function from the timekeeping function. This separation ensures that the chronograph’s high-frequency operation does not interfere with the watch’s primary timekeeping accuracy. This dual-chain system is a significant innovation, as it allows the Mikrotimer to maintain its precision without compromising on reliability.
Unfortunately, no information on pricing or worldwide availability has been released as yet, as the TAG Heuer Mikrotimer watch is still just a concept. However, the anticipation surrounding its release is palpable. Collectors and enthusiasts alike are eagerly awaiting more details. As soon as information comes to light, we will keep you updated.
The Mikrotimer is not just a watch; it is a statement of what is possible when innovation meets craftsmanship. It challenges the boundaries of traditional watchmaking and sets new standards for what a chronograph can achieve. Whether or not it becomes commercially available, the Mikrotimer will undoubtedly influence future designs and technologies in the world of high-precision timekeeping.
