A new application to hit the Apple iTunes Store has opened up new photographic possibilities with the iPhone. The new SynthCam iPhone App allows you to now create fantastic depth of field photography, by using both the still and video camera within the iPhone 4.
To use the app your simply frame the image, take your shot and then move the phone in small circles, keeping it perpendicular to your subject. The iPhone camera then starts to records video and process the frames to keep the subject sharp and blurs the background. The Synthcam app was created by Marc Levoy a professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University.
The Synthcam app for the iPhone 4, 3GS, and iPod Touch 4G is available in the iTunes app store for $0.99.
