One of the latest game titles for the iPad which is creating a lot of interest is Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, and it is probably one of the most interesting and unique games to hit the iPad this year.
The developers of the game describe it as ‘an exploratory action adventure with an emphasis on audiovisual style’, the game features 8-bit inspired graphics, plus an awesome soundtrack which make the game play totally unique and very interesting.
Traverse a mythic little realm, use a sword to do battle & evoke sworcery to solve mystical musical mysteries. Co-operate with friends via Twitter, experience a videogame world that is affected by moon phases & help a wandering warrior monk complete her woeful errand.
Unique Gameplay and Audiovisual Experience
Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP stands out in the crowded app store due to its unique blend of gameplay and audiovisual elements. The game’s 8-bit inspired graphics are a nostalgic nod to the classic games of the past, yet they are presented in a way that feels fresh and modern. The pixel art is meticulously crafted, creating a visually stunning world that is both charming and immersive.
The soundtrack, composed by Jim Guthrie, is another standout feature. It is not just background music; it is an integral part of the game that enhances the overall experience. The music dynamically changes based on the player’s actions and the in-game environment, creating a deeply immersive experience. Players are encouraged to use headphones to fully appreciate the intricate soundscapes, as the iPad’s built-in speakers do not do justice to the rich audio experience.
Engaging Storyline and Social Integration
The storyline of Sword & Sworcery EP is both engaging and thought-provoking. Players take on the role of a wandering warrior monk on a woeful errand, exploring a mythic realm filled with mystical musical mysteries. The game’s narrative is delivered in a unique way, with minimal text and a focus on visual storytelling. This allows players to become fully immersed in the game world and feel a deeper connection to the characters and their journey.
One of the innovative features of the game is its integration with social media. Players can cooperate with friends via Twitter, sharing their progress and discoveries. This social aspect adds an extra layer of engagement, as players can discuss strategies and share their experiences with others. Additionally, the game world is affected by real-world moon phases, adding an element of unpredictability and encouraging players to return to the game at different times to see how the environment has changed.
Have a look at our hands-on screenshots below. We have only had a brief chance to try out the game, but after playing it for about 25 minutes, the game is very cool. The combination of the retro graphics and the soundtrack make it a refreshing change from some of the games available in the app store.
Sword & Sworcery EP is available from iTunes for $4.99 in the US. If you try it out, make sure you use a pair of headphones, as the iPad’s speakers just don’t do the game’s soundtrack justice.
