Sony has just unveiled its latest mobile phone sensor creations, the 16.41MP Sony Exmor R IMX081PQ and the 8.13MP Sony Exmor R IMX105PQ that are the smallest in their size classes.
Sony claims to have solved a majority of the problems related to very small pixel sizes by introducing a unique formation of photo diodes to achieve a sensor with a high resolution, high sensitivity and low noise.
The new sensors are equipped with a new CMOS higher-resolution sensor with a new photo diode layout to accommodate the tiny 1.12μm pixel size without color mixing. The 1.12μm unit cell size is capable of shooting 1080p at 30fps and 720p at 60fps.
The new creations are expected to start shipping in January 2011
