Sony has today quietly released its latest PS3 firmware update version 3.56 which brings with it no additional new features, and only one update does such a thing. A security update, most likely a patch to cover up the holes in the PS3 system exposed by Geohot and fail0verflow.
With the release of the new security patch its been also rumoured that Sony is considering rolling-out a serial key security feature for its games, similar to that used by PC games to try and control piracy.
The latest firmware update is required in order to keep accessing the PlayStation Network (PSN), the PlayStation Store or the online games.
