The Sony Backup Restore app for Android devices has apparently been hacked, this was first spotted by the guys over at Xperia Blog, and Sony has now removed the application from the Google Play store.
The Backup Restore application is used to backup apps, movies, music, text messages and more, and the application comes pre-installed on a number of Sony handsets like the Xperia Z3.
The app was listed on the Google Play Store under the name of another developer and it came with the message that it was now manager by the HeArT HaCkEr Group’, Sony has now removed the app and issued the following statement.
“Sony Mobile takes the security and privacy of customer data very seriously. We are currently investigating these reports. More information will follow as soon as we have fully assessed the situation.“
As yet there are no details on how exactly the application was hacked, as soon as we get some more information on what happened, we will let you guys know.
