Bethesda has this week released a new video detailing a few of the Kinect moves you can expect once it’s rolled out to Xbox 360 consoles equipped with Kinect motion controllers.
The new Skyrim Kinect update will be available for free and is expected to arrive later this month. As we mentioned in a previous article, the Skyrim Kinect integration will come with over 200 voice commands, including the Skyrim’s dragon shouts. This feature will allow you to truly engage with the Skyrim world and gameplay using your Microsoft Xbox 360 Kinect device. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action.
Enhanced Gameplay with Voice Commands
Skyrim Kinect for Xbox 360 will also offer voice commands which can be used throughout the game to aid you with equipping, fighting, and navigating your menus easily and effectively. This integration will enable you to quickly create and load saves during gameplay and access menus and inventories. For instance, you can shout “Quick Save” to save your game instantly or “Open Inventory” to access your items without having to pause the game and navigate through menus manually. This feature is designed to make the gameplay more fluid and immersive, allowing you to stay in the action without interruptions.
Moreover, the voice commands will extend to combat scenarios. Imagine being able to shout “Equip Sword” or “Cast Fireball” and seeing your character respond immediately. This can make battles more dynamic and engaging, as you can focus on strategy and timing rather than fumbling through menus. The dragon shouts, a signature feature of Skyrim, will feel more authentic as you can actually shout them out loud, adding a new layer of excitement to the game.
Broader Implications for Kinect Integration
The integration of Kinect with Skyrim is a significant step forward in the evolution of gaming interfaces. It demonstrates the potential for voice and motion controls to enhance traditional gameplay experiences. While Kinect has been used in various games for fitness and dance, its application in a complex RPG like Skyrim shows its versatility. This could pave the way for more games to incorporate similar features, making voice commands a standard part of the gaming experience.
Additionally, this update could reignite interest in Kinect, which has seen fluctuating popularity since its release. By showcasing its capabilities in a beloved game like Skyrim, Bethesda and Microsoft are highlighting the potential for more immersive and interactive gaming experiences. This could lead to further innovations and improvements in motion-sensing technology and its applications in gaming.
The upcoming Skyrim Kinect update promises to bring a new level of immersion and convenience to the game. With over 200 voice commands, players will be able to interact with the game world in a more natural and intuitive way. This update not only enhances the Skyrim experience but also sets a precedent for future games to explore the possibilities of voice and motion controls.
