Back in September, Skype announced they will change the sign-up process for new users who want to register on the service, and users will be registered to a Microsoft account which can be used to login to Skype.
It has become a reality with the latest Skype for Windows Phone update. With the latest update, new users signing up for a Skype account for the first time on their Windows Phone handsets will register with their Microsoft account.
What about the existing users? They can easily link their Skype account with their Microsoft account and enjoy extra benefits of the Microsoft account, such as additional security, privacy and improved password recovery. Users who link their Skype account with their Microsoft account can enable two-step verifications, and recover their password in case they forget it via SMS.
Here’s a complete change log for Skype for Windows Phone:
- A new and simpler way to sign in to Skype. Just use the same Microsoft account you use for your phone. Already got a Skype account? Link it with your Microsoft account and we’ll carry your credit and contacts over.
- See when someone’s typing a message.
- General fixes and improvements.
If you’re a Skype for Windows Phone user, head over to the Windows Phone store to grab the application.
