Adding people on Skype isn’t the most convenient thing to do. The service has over 300 million users so finding your friends using the service can be a difficult task.
Things are about to change in the near future. Microsoft announced the next version of Skype will give users the ability to add friends using their contact numbers as well.
Once installed, the upcoming Android update will prompt users to add their phone number and verify it. After verification, the app will keep checking your address book, and those who have added their phone numbers will automatically appear in your Skype contact list — same for other people who have your number in their address book.
Starting with Skype 5.0 for Android, you’ll be able to connect Skype to your phone address book. This means it’s easier than ever to find contacts you already know on Skype so you can start chatting, calling and sharing instantly. After you download the latest Android update, in the coming months you’ll be prompted to verify your phone number. From there, the app will automatically look for contact matches between Skype and your address book.
For privacy concerned users, you’ll have the option to choose whether Skype should add the contacts from your address book automatically or not. In addition, the number will not be displayed on your public profile, plus it gives you the ability deactivate the service as well so you’re not discoverable by your phone number.
