It seems that Apple has approved Skyfire 2.0, and it looks like it may be available in the iPhone app store as early as this Thursday. Skyfire 2.0 is a mobile browser although it does have one distinguishing feature above other mobile browsers.
Skyfire 2.0 is able to play Flash videos on the iPhone, it does this by converting the video from Flash to HTML on its servers, so it looks like iPhone users may finally be able to watch Flash video on the iPhone.
You can see it in action in the video below, and it looks like it will be available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch for $2.99.
How Skyfire 2.0 Works
Skyfire 2.0’s ability to play Flash videos on iOS devices is a significant breakthrough, especially considering Apple’s historical stance against Flash. The browser achieves this by using a cloud-based solution. When a user attempts to play a Flash video, Skyfire’s servers intercept the request, convert the Flash content into HTML5, and then stream it back to the user’s device. This process happens almost instantaneously, allowing for a seamless viewing experience.
This feature is particularly useful given that many websites still use Flash for video content. By converting Flash to HTML5, Skyfire 2.0 ensures that users can access a broader range of multimedia content without compatibility issues. This is a game-changer for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch users who have been limited by the lack of Flash support on their devices.
Additional Features and Benefits
Beyond its Flash conversion capabilities, Skyfire 2.0 offers several other features that make it a compelling choice for mobile browsing. The browser includes social media integration, allowing users to easily share content on platforms like Facebook and Twitter. It also offers a “Skyfire HotSwap” feature, which lets multiple users share the same device while maintaining their individual browsing sessions and preferences.
Skyfire 2.0 also boasts enhanced privacy features. Users can browse in private mode, ensuring that their browsing history and cookies are not saved. This is particularly useful for those who share their devices with others or are concerned about privacy.
Moreover, Skyfire 2.0 includes a built-in video optimization feature that adjusts the quality of streaming videos based on the user’s internet connection. This ensures smooth playback even on slower networks, making it a versatile tool for users with varying internet speeds.
The browser’s user interface is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, with easy access to bookmarks, history, and settings. It also supports tabbed browsing, allowing users to open multiple web pages simultaneously and switch between them effortlessly.
