Samsung have today announced they have been able to slim down their Spinpoint M8 drives to accomodate 1TB of storage by removing one of the platters. The new Samsung’s Spinpoint M8, now consists of two 500 gigabyte platters, with a form factor of just 9.5mm in height enabling it to comfortably fit in comfortably within most mobile computing applications.
The new slimmer dual-platter Spinpoint M8 is equipped with a 3 gigabits per second SATA interface, together with an 8mb buffer memory. To keep noise levels to a minimum while in operation the Spinpoint 1TB drives use a combination of EcoSeek and NoiseGuard technology.
The Spinpoint M8 1TB drive is currently in mass production and available worldwide for around $129.00, read the full press release over on Engadget
