It looks like Samsung could have another new smartwatch on the way, as a recent trademark filing with the USPTO has revealed the Samsung Gear S name.
Samsung has filed a number of different trademarks under the ‘Gear’ name, which includes existing devices like the Samsung Gear Live, Samsung Gear 2, and unreleased devices like the Samsung Gear Solo.
As yet there are no details on what this new Samsung Gear S device will be, although we suspect it will be another smartwatch, whether it will be an Android Wear device remains to be seen.
The rumored Samsung Gear Solo is said to be a Tizen powered smartwatch that will come with a SIM card slot, which means the device will be able to work without the new for a smartphone of tablet.
Samsung has been switching its smart watches from Google’s Android OS to their own Tizen OS, this was done recently with the original Samsung Galaxy Gear, and their latest devices, apart from one, come with Tizen.
The new Samsung Gear Live, which was launched recently is an Android Wear device, whether this new Samsung Gear S will come with Android Wear or Tizen, remains to be seen.
Samsung are expected to launch the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in September, and we are expecting to see a new smartwatch at the same time, we wonder if it will be the Samsung Gear S.
