The Mobile World Congress 2015 kicked off, and as expected Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge at the press event yesterday.
The more interesting of the duo is the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge which offers users with a curved display on both sides of the screen.
“With the all new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, Samsung is offering what’s next in mobility, along with a new standard to drive the global mobile agenda,” said JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. “By listening to our customers, and learning from both our success and missteps, we continuously push forward new technologies and ideas. With a reimagined design, robust partner network and novel services, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge offer users the ultimate experience in smartphone options.”
Both handsets offer top-of-the-line specifications, and a different design, offering users a premium look. There’s a 5.1-inch display sporting a resolution of 2,560 by 1,440 pixels resolution with a 577ppi pixel density and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection.
The processing power comes from a 64-bit octa-core Exynos processor paired with 3GB of RAM and various storage options (32/64/128GB), one thing Samsung has left out of their new handsets is a microSD card slot and also the battery is not replaceable.
There’s a 16MP camera on the back for photos and videos with auto real-time high dynamic range (HDR), smart ptical image stabilization (OIS) and IR detect white balance to provide users with a sharper images. There’s a 5MP front-facing camera as well for selfies and video conferencing.
Both handsets are equipped with a universal wireless charging technology which works with any charging pads that supports WPC and PMA standards. The Galaxy S6 features a 2,550 mAh battery while the Galaxy S6 Edge offers a slightly bigger 2,600 mAh unit. Both devices ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop as their operating system out of the box.
There’s no word about the exact pricing of any of the handsets, but the company announced both devices will hit the retail shelves globally in April. They will be available in several color options including white pearl, black sapphire, gold platinum, blue topaz (Galaxy S6 only) and green emerald (Galaxy S6 edge only).
