The last thing we heard about Rupert Murdoch’s and News Corp’s iPad newspaper, the Daily was that it would launch some time in January of 2011, and now it looks like the launch may be delayed.
According to All Things D ‘The Daily’ iPad newspaper was scheduled to launch sometime next week, but now it looks like it may have been delayed for a couple of weeks.
It seems that the issue which has delayed ‘The Daily’ is not with the News Corp app itself, but rather with the new subscription feature that Apple will be using withing iTunes for these types of publications.
The Daily will use a new ‘Push’ style subscription feature which is designed to bill customers automatically from iTunes either on a weekly or monthly basis, and then the latest edition of the Daily automatically loads onto your iPad every morning.
It will be interesting to see if Apple and News Corp can make a sucess of the Daily and also this new type of subscription model, whether people will be willing to pay for information that can be found on the web for free remains to be seen.
Although even if they Daily manages to get a couple of hundred thousand subscribers, News Corp should be able to make a profit from it depending on the pricing but we suspect that these types of iPad publications wont get the millions of subscribers that the traditional media outlets are hoping for.
