GoPro camera owners looking to get a little bit more creative with their video footage captured using the well-known GoPro rugged action camera. Might be interested in a new Ribcage GoPro adapter which has been created that allows owners to use interchangeable lenses with their GoPro camera.

Once the Ribcage GoPro adapter is attached to your camera the Ribcage adapter lets you attach any C-mount lens which are used on 16mm movie cameras and CCTV cameras to name a few applications. Watch the video after the jump to learn more about the Ribcage GoPro adapter project and see it in action.

Ribcage GoPro Adapter

The addition of the interchangeable lenses provided by using the Ribcage GoPro adapter offers owners zooming, focusing, depth of field, and aperture control which was just not available from the GoPro camera before and you can also enjoy a little IR filter for infrared photography is desired. GoPro explain a little about the cropping that takes place.

“The Hero 3 Black has a 1/2.3″ sensor, so the crop factor on 35mm SLR lenses is 5.7, however should you use 1/2″ C-Mount lens very little cropping will occur. We’re currently investigating the use of focal reducers to help reduce the crop factor.”

The Ribcage GoPro adapter supports the GoPro Hero3 or Hero3+ Black cameras and is currently available as a pre-order and is available as a DIY kit for $200 or fully configured with a GoPro rugged action camera for $799.
