A new demonstration video has been released this week that provides a glimpse at what can be achieved using real-time face tracking and projection mapping.
The very surreal video demonstrates how projection mapping technology can be used with real-time face tracking to change the appearance of a person face instantaneously, adding a variety of different special effects to the skin. Check out the video after the jump for a demonstration of what can be achieved.
Projection mapping technology is capable of transforming irregular shaped objects into a display surface for video projection in this case the model’s face. The subject has been three-dimensionally and spatially mapped on the virtual program which then mimics the environment its scanned to projected on.
Using reference points on the main features of the model’s face the program is capable of following the changes that occur when the model moves her face from side to side or changes her facial expression. The new projection mapping system is still in its very early stages of development and are sure to provide plenty of innovative applications for movies advertising and games in the future.
