Qualcomm has had great success with its Snapdragon range of processors, its Snapdragon 800 processor is used in some of the worlds most popular smartphones, and now the company has announced its next generation mobile processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 features a Krait 450 quad core CPU, and according to Qualcomm, this is the first mobile processor with speeds of up to 2.5GHz per core.
This new mobile processor offers support for Ultra HD video with a 4K resolution, it also comes with a new Adreno 420 GPU for graphics.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 is capable of a 40 percent improvement in graphics over the Snapdragon 800, it also comes with either a Qualcomm Gobi MDM9x25 or MDM9x35 modem for LTE, plus 2 stream dual ban Qualcomm VIVA 802.1ac WiFi which supports 4K video streaming.
Using a smartphone or tablet powered by Snapdragon 805 processor is like having an UltraHD home theater in your pocket, with 4K video, imaging and graphics, all built for mobile,” said Murthy Renduchintala, executive vice president, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., and co-president, QCT. “We’re delivering the mobile industry’s first truly end-to-end Ultra HD solution, and coupled with our industry leading Gobi LTE modems and RF transceivers, streaming and watching content at 4K resolution will finally be possible.”
Qualcomm has said the the new Snapdragon 805 is sampling with manufacturers at the moment, and we can expect the first devices to launch in the first half of 2014.
