It’s been a long time since HTC unveiled a handset running Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system. However, it seems things are about to change if @evleaks is correct.
According to the notorious leaker, HTC is working on a new handset dubbed as HTC W8, which will be powered by the latest Windows Phone 8.1. The alleged handset is headed to Verizon, and is expected to see the light of the day in the third quarter of 2014, as per @evleaks.
“HTC W8 coming to Verizon in Q3, running Windows Phone 8.1 and based on the A9. Look for BoomSound and Duo cameras to make the move from Android to WP,” says @evleaks.
He also said that the alleged HTC W8 will come with BoomSound speakers and Duo cameras on the back, similar to the HTC One M8, and will be based on a device codenamed A9 — we don’t have any idea about this device, but it could be another high-end device from HTC.
It would be great to see other manufacturers jumping in the Windows Phone bandwagon, currently dominated by Nokia which is now a part of Microsoft.
At the moment, there’s no word on the exact availability, pricing or the design, but more things will definitely pop up as the third quarter draws closer. We’ll update you if we hear anything about the alleged HTC W8.
