If you have a few skills in Linux programming it is now possible for you to create your very own personalised firmware for your PS3 system. Thanks to the work completed by the fail0verflow team in breaking the PS3’s copy protection wide open last week.
KaKaRoTo, has now created the very first custom PS3 firmware, but due to legal/copyright issues, KaKaRoTo,will not provide the custom firmware to anyone, however, he has made available all the tools necessary to transform an Official firmware update into your very own personalised PS3 firmware.
The actual usefulness of the hack is still a little unknown at the moment, as it apparently will not allow you run current homebrew programs or backup copies of games, but KaKaRoTo says “this custom firmware is really meant for future homebrew installation”, and in addition “will not allow piracy”.
Also if you’re thinking of giving this a go, you may want to disconnect your console from the PlayStation Network first. We will keep you posted on developments as more details become available.
