Using the artificial intelligence for the game Portal as his inspiration, Corey Thomas has created his very own personal assistant that uses Microsoft’s Kinect motion controller as its voice command hub.
Thomas has called his creation GLaDOS and put together a quick demo video of his new personal assistant helping him out with a few things after the break, together with a few carefully selected remarks and insults.
Thomas explains:
“This is the beginning of an experiment to create a personal assistant using Microsoft’s Kinect. So far, I’ve gotten it to recognize its name, execute commands and properly shut down. GLaDOS can now access system tools such as the device manager and control panel, media such as My Pictures and My Videos, and can launch Zune Playlists.
