Panasonic has today launched its new Lumix DMC-G3 Micro Four Thirds camera, making the highly anticipated DSLR official. The new Lumix G3 is equipped with a 16.0-megapixel sensor for high-quality images and 1920 x 1080 full-High Definition (HD) video recording complete with stereo sound in AVCHD.
The Lumix G3 is also equipped with a positionable swivel touchscreen on the rear, enabling users to focus on the subject by simply touching the 3-inch high-resolution screen. Once locked on, the G3 will then automatically track the subject, even if it moves, using its Auto Focus (AF) tracking.
The Lumix G3 is also equipped with a dedicated video button that can be used to switch to video capture quickly without changing modes, and has a built-in flash and hotshoe for connecting optional Lumix flashes.
“With the LUMIX G3, Panasonic offers an extremely light compact system camera that is easy to use, thanks to a touch-control LCD, yet still maintains powerful and creative features to appease the more advanced photographer,” said Darin Pepple, Senior Product Manager, Imaging, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company.
Advanced Features for Enthusiasts
The Lumix G3 is designed to cater to both beginners and advanced photographers. For those who are just starting, the intuitive touchscreen interface makes it easy to navigate through settings and capture stunning images with minimal effort. The camera’s Intelligent Auto (iA) mode automatically adjusts settings to suit the scene, ensuring that even novice users can take professional-quality photos.
For more experienced photographers, the Lumix G3 offers a range of manual controls and creative options. The camera supports RAW image capture, allowing for greater flexibility in post-processing. Additionally, the G3 features a variety of scene modes and creative filters, enabling photographers to experiment with different styles and effects.
Enhanced Video Capabilities
In addition to its impressive still photography capabilities, the Lumix G3 excels in video recording. The camera’s 1920 x 1080 full-HD video recording ensures that users can capture high-quality footage with ease. The inclusion of stereo sound in AVCHD format adds to the overall video experience, providing clear and immersive audio.
The dedicated video button on the Lumix G3 allows users to switch to video mode instantly, making it convenient to capture spontaneous moments. The camera’s continuous AF tracking ensures that subjects remain in focus, even when they are moving. This feature is particularly useful for recording dynamic scenes, such as sports events or wildlife.
“The Lumix G3’s video capabilities are a game-changer for content creators,” said Darin Pepple. “Whether you’re a vlogger, filmmaker, or simply someone who loves capturing life’s moments, the G3 offers the tools you need to produce high-quality videos.”
Connectivity and Accessories
The Lumix G3 is equipped with a range of connectivity options to enhance the user experience. The camera features an HDMI output, allowing users to view their photos and videos on a larger screen. Additionally, the G3 supports SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards, providing ample storage for high-resolution images and videos.
For those looking to expand their photography toolkit, the Lumix G3 is compatible with a variety of accessories. The built-in hotshoe allows users to attach external flashes, while the camera’s microphone input enables the use of external microphones for improved audio quality. Panasonic also offers a range of lenses for the Micro Four Thirds system, giving photographers the flexibility to choose the best lens for their needs.
