Yesterday we heard that OS X 10.12 would come with Apple’s Siri built in, and now we have some more details on other features that are coming to the next major release of OS X.
According to a recent report, OS X 10.12 will let you unlock the OS using your iPhone and Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
Unlocking Your Mac with Touch ID
The new feature will apparently unlock your Mac automatically when your iPhone is close to it, and Apple will use Touch ID as well for verification on your Mac. This means that you won’t need to type in your password every time you want to access your Mac, making the process faster and more secure. This feature is expected to work similarly to how the Apple Watch can unlock a Mac, but with the added security and convenience of Touch ID.
This integration between iPhone and Mac is part of Apple’s broader strategy to create a seamless ecosystem where all devices work together harmoniously. For instance, Apple has already introduced features like Handoff, which allows you to start a task on one device and continue it on another, and Continuity, which lets you make and receive phone calls and text messages on your Mac.
Other Expected Features in OS X 10.12
Apple is expected to show off the next major release of OS X at their Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) next month. The OS will launch later in the year, probably sometime in September or October. In addition to Siri and the new unlocking feature, there are several other enhancements and features that are rumored to be part of OS X 10.12.
One of the anticipated features is an improved Photos app. Apple has been working on making the Photos app more robust, with better editing tools and more advanced organizational features. This will make it easier for users to manage their photo libraries and perform complex edits without needing third-party software.
Another expected update is to the Apple Music app on OS X. With the growing popularity of streaming services, Apple is likely to introduce new features and improvements to make Apple Music more competitive. This could include a more intuitive user interface, better playlist management, and enhanced integration with other Apple services.
Performance improvements are also on the horizon. Apple is known for optimizing their software to run smoothly on their hardware, and OS X 10.12 is expected to be no different. Users can look forward to faster boot times, quicker app launches, and overall better system responsiveness.
Security is always a priority for Apple, and OS X 10.12 is expected to come with enhanced security features. This could include better encryption methods, more robust malware protection, and additional privacy controls to give users more control over their data.
As soon as we get some more details on other new features that are coming in the next major release of OS X, we will let you guys know.
