Luxury watch maker Omega has this month launched the new Master Chronometer Certification as well as the very first Master Chronometer watch in the form of the Omega Globemaster pictured above.
The Master Chronometer Certification was first announced approximately a year ago by Omega and the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology.
The Master Chronometer Certification consists of 8 tests carried out over 10 days and each watch must pass a range of criteria that replicate or exceed real-life wearing conditions. With tests including exposure to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss, and extreme exposure to climate and underwater conditions, Nick Hayek, CEO of the Swatch Group that owns Omega explains :
We all know about the importance of beautiful products, history and innovation. But one other thing is so important. That’s trust. Trust for our consumers. By working with an independent organization such as METAS, we can be transparent for the consumer, and reconfirm that the Swiss watch industry is the leader in precision and innovation
Rigorous Testing for Unmatched Precision
The Master Chronometer Certification is not just a marketing gimmick; it is a rigorous process that ensures each watch meets the highest standards of precision and durability. The eight tests include assessments of the watch’s performance in various positions and at different temperatures, as well as its resistance to water and magnetic fields. These tests are designed to simulate real-world conditions, ensuring that the watch will perform reliably no matter what challenges it faces.
For instance, one of the tests involves exposing the watch to magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss. This is particularly important because magnetic fields are everywhere in our modern world, from smartphones to household appliances, and they can significantly affect the accuracy of a watch. By ensuring that their watches can withstand such high levels of magnetic interference, Omega is guaranteeing that their timepieces will remain accurate in any environment.
Innovation and Transparency
Omega’s collaboration with the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) is a testament to their commitment to transparency and consumer trust. METAS is an independent organization that provides an unbiased assessment of each watch’s performance, ensuring that the certification process is both rigorous and fair. This partnership allows Omega to offer a level of transparency that is rare in the luxury watch industry.
Nick Hayek, CEO of the Swatch Group, emphasizes the importance of this transparency: “By working with an independent organization such as METAS, we can be transparent for the consumer, and reconfirm that the Swiss watch industry is the leader in precision and innovation.” This statement underscores Omega’s dedication to not only meeting but exceeding industry standards.
The Omega Globemaster, the first watch to receive the Master Chronometer Certification, is a perfect example of this commitment to excellence. With its classic design and state-of-the-art technology, the Globemaster is a watch that combines the best of both worlds. It features a Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement, which is known for its durability and precision. The watch is also resistant to magnetic fields, water, and extreme temperatures, making it a reliable choice for any occasion.
