OCZ has been making SSDs for enthusiasts and gamers for a while now. The company has announced a new SSD has been added to its line called the Solid 3. The new SSD is made to be cost effective and to provide the user with lots of performance. The SSD uses the new 6Gbps SATA interface for the best performance.
The SSD will be offered in 60GB and 120GB capacities. The 60GB is considered a boot drive. The Solid 3 uses MLC NAND flash and has TRIM support. When active the drive needs 2.7W of power and when idle it needs 1.5W. It is shock resistant to 1500G and will work in a RAID array.
The drive has impressive performance with maximum read speed of up to 500MB/s. The maximum write speed is 450MB/s and the drive has random write performance of 20,000 IOPS. The 120GB version of the Solid 3 is available online right now for about $270.
