Fans of Valve’s Team Fortress that are looking to take their gaming into virtual reality might be pleased to learn that a new experimental VR mode is being added to Team Fortress 2 to support the new Oculus Rift VR headset which is currently in development.
The new Team Fortress 2 experimental mode for the Oculus Rift will include a unique in-game-hat, and will be included in an update rolling out this week via the Steam games network.
Joe Ludwig, a programmer at Valve on the TF2 team, explained a little more about the new Oculus Rift update.
“When we first played an early version of Virtual Reality mode in Team Fortress we were blown away by the immersion we experienced. VR is just getting started, but it is going to have a big impact on gaming. This update will let us share that experience with more of the Team Fortress community.”
Valve is expected to provide more information next week on their interested in the new virtual reality Oculus Rift headset and how it might be used on other Valve games in the near future.
The first Oculus Rift developer kits are expected to start shipping in the next few weeks, and consumer Oculus Rift kits launch to the public later this year if all goes smoothly. Unfortunately no information on pricing or worldwide availability has been released as yet.
