If you are waiting for your Oculus Rift Development Kit which Oculus VR started shipping on March 29th 2013, you will be pleased to learn that the virtual reality development kits are now starting to arrive to Kickstarter backers.
The Oculus Rift Development Kit is the first stage of the devices development from concept to production virtual reality headset, and we have already seen what the Oculus Rift is capable of playing Valve’s Team Fortress 2 game.
As expected the Doom 3 game that was thought to be shipping with the Oculus Rift Development Kit, but was later removed is not in the kit, and owners will have to play TF2 for the time being. More information on setting up your Oculus Rift headset to play TF2 can be found here.
A commercial model of the Oculus Rift will follow once their is solid support for the device by game developers, but the first Oculus Rift Development Kits now provide games designers with the tools to crete this support, so fingers crossed we won’t have to wait to long before we can all enjoy a little virtual reality gaming thanks to the new Kickstarter VR headset.
