Brendan Iribe, Oculus VR CEO has revealed today on stage at the Web Summit taking place in Ireland, that the highly anticipated launch of a consumer version over the awesome Oculus Rift virtual reality headset is “months, not years away.”
Which is great news and will bring a smile to many gamers and virtual reality enthusiasts that have been patiently waiting for Oculus VR to release a consumer version available for anyone to use.
The Oculus Rift is currently available to developers and anyone else who is interested and is skilled enough to use the required development kit and software for around $350. However consumers waiting to taste the awesomeness of the virtual reality headset themselves have been patiently waiting for a release date to be announced.
Unfortunately no specific Oculus Rift release date has yet been revealed by Oculus VR but if the device is merely months away from being launched you can expect it to possibly be available in 2015 or worse case scenario in 2016.
During his presentation Iribe also warned other virtual reality headset manufacturers to be carefully not to rush competing devices to market as motion sickness and disorientation for users have been proving large issues whilst developing the Oculus Rift headset.
