Nokia’s HERE Drive+ was previously a paid service, and now the company has announced that HERE Drive+ will be made available for free on all Windows Phone 8.1 smartphones.
On top of that, Nokia announced that they are releasing updates for existing HERE applications, which include HERE Maps and HERE Transit.
You can experience the power of the HERE platform when you use our apps such as HERE Maps, HERE Drive+ and HERE Transit, obviously, but also when you use other, location-aware apps, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more.
Also Windows Phone 8.1 is powered by HERE, but we wanted to make it even better for a mobile lifestyle. This is why we extend the benefits of free voice-guided car navigation in 97 countries to everyone. No matter whether you have an entry-level Nokia Lumia 520, a Samsung Ativ S or a HTC 8X, with Windows Phone 8.1 you get HERE Drive+ for free, saving up to €35.
Enhanced Features and Benefits
The decision to make HERE Drive+ free for all Windows Phone 8.1 users is a significant move by Nokia, aimed at enhancing the user experience and making advanced navigation accessible to a broader audience. This change means that users no longer need to pay for premium navigation services, which can be particularly beneficial for those who rely heavily on their smartphones for travel and commuting.
HERE Drive+ offers a range of features that make it a robust navigation tool. These include turn-by-turn voice-guided navigation, offline maps, and real-time traffic updates. The offline maps feature is particularly useful for users who may not always have access to a stable internet connection. By downloading maps in advance, users can navigate even in remote areas without worrying about data charges or connectivity issues.
Integration with Other HERE Applications
In addition to HERE Drive+, Nokia’s suite of HERE applications, including HERE Maps and HERE Transit, are also receiving updates. HERE Maps provides detailed maps and points of interest, while HERE Transit offers comprehensive public transportation information. The integration of these applications creates a seamless experience for users, allowing them to switch between driving, walking, and public transportation with ease.
For example, a user planning a trip can use HERE Maps to find their destination, HERE Drive+ to navigate by car, and HERE Transit to find the best public transportation options once they reach a city. This level of integration ensures that users have all the information they need at their fingertips, regardless of their mode of transportation.
“We believe that by making HERE Drive+ free, we are not only adding value to our users but also setting a new standard for mobile navigation services,” said a Nokia spokesperson. “Our goal is to provide a comprehensive navigation solution that meets the needs of all users, whether they are driving, walking, or using public transportation.”
