Nintendo’s E3 keynote has come and gone and all that’s left behind is a sort of giddy confusion among gamers and the press. It turns out almost every Wii 2 leak we’ve seen over the last few months was pretty much spot on. The new console is not only a proper, HD -capable games machine with 1080p output, but it also features the by now infamous six inch touchscreen controllers.
And these things are as impressive as they are baffling. Not only will you be able to stream the console’s image output to your controller’s screen, but you can also use it as a motion controller or even a completely stand-alone handheld gaming device. Not to mention it will apparently be compatible with all your other Wii accessories, from the lowly Wii Remote all the way down to the Wii Fit board. Detailed technical specs haven’t yet been released by Nintendo, but judging by the tech demos, the Wii U should be able to give any current-gen console a run for its money.
