A new and innovative style of bike called the ‘StringBike’ has been designed by a team of designers from Schwinn Csepel Zrt. This groundbreaking design has removed the traditional messy chain and replaced it with taut wires and kidney-shaped eccentric discs. You can see the new mechanism working in the video after the jump.
How the StringBike Works
The kidney discs serve the same function as a traditional circle-shaped gear, although in the Stringbike’s case, different sized and shaped discs can be installed that change performance (e.g., racing or touring). This flexibility allows riders to customize their biking experience based on their specific needs and preferences. The taut wires replace the conventional chain, providing a smoother and quieter ride. This innovative mechanism not only reduces maintenance but also enhances the overall efficiency of the bike.
Advantages of the StringBike
One of the primary advantages of the StringBike is its low maintenance. Traditional bike chains require regular cleaning and lubrication to prevent rust and wear. In contrast, the StringBike’s wire system is less prone to dirt accumulation and does not require lubrication, making it a more convenient option for everyday riders. Additionally, the absence of a chain reduces the risk of chain-related accidents, such as chain slips or breaks, which can be dangerous for cyclists.
Another significant benefit is the improved weight distribution. The StringBike’s design allows for a more balanced weight distribution, which can enhance stability and control, especially during high-speed rides or sharp turns. This feature is particularly advantageous for competitive cyclists who require precision and agility.
Moreover, the StringBike offers a unique aesthetic appeal. The sleek and modern design sets it apart from traditional bicycles, making it an attractive choice for those who value both functionality and style. The innovative use of wires and kidney-shaped discs not only improves performance but also adds a futuristic touch to the bike’s overall appearance.
