MSI have unveiled their monster flagship the Big Bang Marshal Motherboard equipped with no less than 8 x PCIe slots, 8 x USB 3.0 ports and 3 x BIOS Chips combined in a XL-ATX form factor.
If you are wondering how MSI managed to get enough bandwidth for eight x16 PCI Express slots, the simple answer is, they didn’t. The board is equipped with four slots with x16 bandwidth and if you want to use all eight slots, they are scaled down to operate at x8 bandwidth.
The Big Bang Marshal features a 24 phase DrMOS PWM design and to incorporate so many features some of the components have been moved to the rear of the PCB, a very unusual solution on a large motherboard such as this.
In addition to the regular 8-pin 12V connector, MSI has added a second 8-pin 12V connector and a 6-pin 12V connector near the PCI Express slots. As you can see from the image above the board is only fitted with four DIMM slots but there are rumours that this might change before the MSI Big Bang Marshal goes to market in the first quarter of 2011.
