Back in March, it was reported that Moto G would hit Republic Wireless, and it seems the day has finally arrived. Although, they might be a little late since it has been a few months since Motorola released the affordable Moto G, and rumors suggest the company is working on another affordable handset which will debut next month.
Anyway, Moto G is available from Republic Wireless for $149 for the 8GB version, while the 16GB version costs $179. That’s the contract-free price, but the handset will only work with Republic Wireless, which may be a downside since users can already purchase the handset SIM-Free directly from Motorola.
Specifications and Features
As far as the specs are concerned, there’s nothing different; it comes with a 4.3-inch 720p display and is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset with 1GB of RAM and 8/16GB internal storage. Unfortunately, there’s no microSD card slot for expandable storage. The 4.3-inch display offers a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, which translates to a pixel density of around 326 ppi, providing clear and sharp visuals for everyday use.
The handset also features a 5MP camera for photos and videos and runs Android 4.4 KitKat as its operating system out of the box. The 5MP rear camera is capable of capturing decent photos in good lighting conditions and can record 720p HD videos. Additionally, there’s a 1.3MP front-facing camera for video calls and selfies.
Software and Performance
Running on Android 4.4 KitKat, the Moto G offers a near-stock Android experience, which means it doesn’t come with a lot of bloatware that can slow down the device. This ensures smoother performance and quicker updates compared to heavily skinned versions of Android. The Snapdragon 400 chipset, coupled with 1GB of RAM, provides adequate performance for daily tasks such as browsing, social media, and light gaming. However, it may struggle with more demanding applications and multitasking.
One of the key selling points of the Moto G is its affordability without compromising too much on performance and build quality.
