Mojang is quickly becoming the 800-pound gorilla of a scene more used to Capuchin monkeys, with today’s announcement that the ubiquitous Minecraft made the developer $33 million in total revenue. As you can imagine that the overheads weren’t exactly huge, that means a healthy chunk of that unspeakable mountain of currency is pure profit.
Also, keep in mind this is a game that hasn’t even reached the lofty peaks of alpha yet. Despite the hefty payout though, there are still some issues to contend with. “I’ve always had a tendency to feel like I’m just not quite keeping up with demands, even before starting work on Minecraft. It’s not gotten better by having a runaway hit like this,” Minecraft creator Markus Persson explained. Don’t worry, Markus, success means people will expect less effort from you, not more. Plus, the one thing $33 million and love have in common is not having to say you’re sorry.
