Before the new Surface Pro 3 was launched, there were rumors that Microsoft would launch a new Surface Mini tablet, although the device was pulled at the last minute before Microsoft’s Surface press event.
Microsoft has now confirmed, in their latest earnings report, that their Surface Mini tablet has been killed off, and it looks like we will not see this device in the future.
The news was spotted in the Microsoft earnings report by TechCrunch, you can see the relevant section of the report below.
“[c]urrent year cost of revenue included Surface inventory adjustments resulting from our transition to newer generation devices and a decision to not ship a new form factor.”
When the device was pulled from launch just a few days before it was due to be announced, it wasn’t clear whether it had been delayed or pulled for good.
Considering the statement from Microsoft above, it looks like the company has decided not to release the Surface Mini tablet in the future. Of course this doesn’t mean that we will not see a smaller Windows tablet from Microsoft some time in the future, although we do not expect one to launch any time soon.
