Makers looking for a new project to keep them busy may be interested in this huge Optimus Prime blaster created by YouTube Bob Clagett. Check out the video below to learn more about the gigantic Optimist Prime blaster which has been created by the How To Make, YouTube channel’s creator.
Originally Bob tried to make a scale version of the ion cannon by creating its form using foam, wood and tubing however he wasn’t very happy with the results after the first stages had been completed and decided to restart using 3D printers to create the components in more detail. Bob is a self-confessed fan of 80s toys and movies and has been a Transformers fan since his childhood.
“After a lot of time modeling and printing the individual components I had to assemble the pieces. The barrel was scaled perfectly using the PVC and 3d printed accents and the rest of the bulky pieces were printed without much infill because the 1.2mm extruder made some pretty strong walls. Some of the pieces were too big to fit on the Taz 6’s print bed, so they had to printed in pieces and glued together using CA glue and Bondo to fill in the seams. Then I sanded, a lot.”
If you fancy building your very own Bob has made available all the code and 3D printed component drawings which you can download directly from his GitHub page and website.
