Apple’s desktop OS is called OS X, although there have been rumors that Apple will be changing the name of the OS to macOS.
Now, references to macOS have appeared on Apple’s developer website, along with iOS, tvOS, and watchOS. You can see a screenshot from Apple’s website below, although this has now been changed back to OS X.

The Evolution of Apple’s Desktop OS
Apple’s desktop operating system has undergone significant changes over the years. Originally launched as Mac OS in 1984, it was rebranded as OS X in 2001 with the release of Mac OS X 10.0 Cheetah. This marked a significant shift in the design and functionality of the operating system, introducing a Unix-based architecture and a more modern user interface. Over the years, OS X has seen numerous updates, each bringing new features and improvements. The rebranding to macOS is seen as a natural progression, aligning the desktop OS with Apple’s other operating systems: iOS, tvOS, and watchOS.
What to Expect from macOS
Apple is expected to announce the change from OS X to macOS at their Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC). The company is also expected to unveil the first version of macOS at the event. This rebranding is not just a name change; it signifies a deeper integration and consistency across all Apple devices.
With macOS, users can expect a more seamless experience when switching between their iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac. Features like Handoff, Continuity, and Universal Clipboard are likely to be enhanced, making it easier for users to start a task on one device and finish it on another. Additionally, macOS is expected to bring improvements in performance, security, and user interface design.
One of the anticipated features is the introduction of Siri on macOS. Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant, has been a staple on iOS devices for years, and its integration into macOS would allow users to perform tasks using voice commands, such as setting reminders, searching the web, and controlling smart home devices.
Another expected feature is the enhancement of the Photos app. With the increasing popularity of digital photography, Apple is likely to introduce new editing tools and organizational features to help users manage their photo libraries more efficiently. Integration with iCloud will also be improved, ensuring that photos and videos are seamlessly synced across all Apple devices.
As soon as we get more details on what changes are coming to Apple’s desktop OS, we will let you guys know. We will have more information on Monday at WWDC 2016.
