Earlier today we heard a rumor that the iPhone 5 launch would be the 5th of September 2011, and now there are some more possible details on some of the features that will be built into the new iPhone 5.
Back in March, we heard that the iPhone 5 would feature deep voice integration, after Apple purchased a company called Siri, who had developed a virtual personal assistant which could be controlled by voice commands.
Now there is more evidence that this technology will be included in the iPhone 5, as the guys over at 9 to 5 Mac have discovered a reference to the ‘Assistant’ in the latest release of iOS 5.
Voice Integration and Its Potential Uses
The technology could be used for a number of things, for example making a restaurant reservation or booking cinema tickets, using voice commands with your iPhone 5. Imagine being able to simply say, “Book a table for two at 7 PM at the nearest Italian restaurant,” and having your iPhone handle the rest. This would not only save time but also make the process more convenient, especially when you are on the go.
Moreover, the voice integration could extend to other functionalities such as sending text messages, setting reminders, and even controlling smart home devices. For instance, you could say, “Turn off the living room lights,” and your iPhone would communicate with your smart home system to execute the command. This level of integration could make the iPhone 5 a central hub for managing various aspects of daily life, enhancing its utility beyond just a communication device.
Enhanced User Experience with ‘Assistant’
The ‘Assistant’ feature, as referenced in iOS 5, could also bring a more personalized user experience. By utilizing device information, the Assistant could offer tailored suggestions and actions based on your habits and preferences. For example, if you frequently call a particular contact at a specific time, the Assistant could prompt you to make the call, or even do it automatically if you wish.
Additionally, the Assistant could integrate with other apps to provide a seamless experience. For example, if you have a fitness app, you could ask the Assistant to log your workout or provide updates on your progress. This kind of deep integration could make the iPhone 5 not just a smartphone, but a smart companion that understands and anticipates your needs.

The rumored features of the iPhone 5, particularly the deep voice integration and the ‘Assistant’ functionality, could significantly enhance the user experience by making the device more intuitive and responsive to voice commands. These advancements could set a new standard for smartphones, making them more than just tools for communication, but essential companions in our daily lives. As we await the official launch, the anticipation continues to build, and it will be interesting to see how these features are implemented and received by users.
