According to Digg founder Kevin Rose, Apple will be announcing the new iPad 2 within the next three to 4 weeks, with a possible date of February the 1st being rumored as when it will be announced.

Rose went on to say that the iPad 2 would feature a Retina display, something which we have heard rumors about before, but then after speaking to another source Kevin Rose said that the iPad 2 wont feature a Retina display, but instead a higher resolution display than the first generation iPad.

iPad 2

I have it on good authority that Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in the next “3-4 weeks”, possibly Tuesday February 1st. The iPad 2 will feature a retina display and front/back camera

UPDATE: Spoke w/another source, the display has a “higher dpi”, but not technically a retina display. This seems odd to me, we’ll have to wait and see..

The next three top four weeks sounds about right for Apple to announce the iPad 2, and we suspect that it will end up going on sale in March/April.

We have heard rumors before on the iPad 2 including the specifications which we are hoping will include dual video cameras for FaceTime, as well as a better resolution display for videos.

Apple has now announced the iPad 3, have a look at our iPad 3 vs iPad 2 specifications compared guide for information on Apple’s new iPad.
