Apple released their new mobile OS last month and now Apple has updated their developer page with the latest iOS 9 adoption rates.
Apple announced at the launch of the new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus that iOS 9 adoption was at 50%, the latest figures show that iOS 9 is now on 57 percent of Apple’s devices.
The chart below shows that iOS 9 is on 57% of devices, iOS 8 is on 33 percent of devices and earlier versions of Apple’s mobile OS is on 10 percent of devices.
iOS 9 Adoption Rates and User Experience
The rapid adoption of iOS 9 can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, Apple has a strong ecosystem that encourages users to update their devices to the latest software. The seamless integration between hardware and software ensures that users get the best experience possible. Additionally, iOS 9 brought several new features and improvements that made it an attractive update for users.
One of the key features of iOS 9 is the enhanced Siri functionality. Siri became more proactive, offering suggestions before users even asked for them. This included things like suggesting apps to open based on usage patterns, providing timely reminders, and even offering directions based on calendar events. These improvements made Siri a more integral part of the iOS experience.
Another significant update in iOS 9 was the introduction of the News app. This app provided users with a personalized news feed, aggregating content from various sources based on user preferences. The News app was designed to offer a more engaging and customized reading experience, which was a big draw for many users.
Performance and Stability Improvements
iOS 9 also focused on performance and stability improvements. Apple worked on optimizing the operating system to make it faster and more efficient. This was particularly noticeable on older devices, where users reported smoother performance and better battery life after updating to iOS 9. The update also included a Low Power Mode, which helped extend battery life by reducing background activity and lowering performance when the battery was running low.
Security was another area where iOS 9 made significant strides. Apple introduced a new six-digit passcode, making it harder for unauthorized users to gain access to devices. Additionally, the update included improvements to the security of the operating system itself, making it more resistant to attacks and vulnerabilities.
The adoption rate of iOS 9 is also a testament to Apple’s effective update distribution system. Unlike Android, where updates are often delayed by manufacturers and carriers, Apple can push updates directly to all compatible devices. This ensures that a large percentage of users can quickly benefit from the latest features and security improvements.
It will be interesting to see where Apple’s iOS 9 is at after a full month, the software was released to existing users on the 16th of September. Given the current adoption rate, it is likely that iOS 9 will continue to see strong growth as more users update their devices.
The rapid adoption of iOS 9 highlights the effectiveness of Apple’s ecosystem and the appeal of the new features and improvements introduced in the update. With enhanced functionality, better performance, and improved security, iOS 9 has proven to be a worthwhile upgrade for many users.
