Makers and developers patiently waiting for the arrival of the new Intel Edison PC will be pleased to learn that Intel has now started shipping their new mini PC module.
The tiny Intel Edison PC module is powered by a 500 MHz Intel Atom Silvermont dual-core processor which is supported by 1GB of RAM and includes 4GB of eMMC flash storage, together with a 100 MHz Quark micro-controller.
Other features of the Intel Edison mini PC module include connectivity provided by both Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy technology and dual-band 802.11n WiFi. If you would like to add extra ports to the slimline PC module Intel has also created a variety of expansion boards which allow you to add extra functionality when required.
For example the Intel Edison Board for Arduino provides users with a micro SD card connector, micro USB port, USB 2.0 port, and support for Arduino shields.
SparkFun has also created a range of SparkFun Blocks add-ons specifically designed for the Intel Edison board. Check out the video below to learn more about them.

The Intel Edison PC module is available to purchase from SparkFun for $49.95 and blocks to expand its features and capability are priced between $15 and $25.
