We have featured a number of wacky uses and hacks for Microsoft’s Kinect motion controller here on Geeky Gadgets. But one innovative music group has taken it a step further by using the Kinect to create a music video complete with anaglyphic 3D. This allows you to see extra features whilst wearing a pair of stylish red and blue lens glasses.
Being the geeky person I am, I happened to have a pair in my desk drawer, and the effects are not bad at all on full screen. Watch the video after the jump.
The Creative Process Behind the Kinect Music Video
The music video was created using a hacked Kinect and a 3D capture script. Each scene was “shot” with the Kinect, storing the related 3D files in a flat text format. This innovative approach allowed the creators to capture depth information and spatial data, which is crucial for creating a 3D effect. After capturing the scenes, the team engaged in a bit of tinkering and tidying up, including occluding the background to ensure that the main subjects stood out clearly.
