Google has today released new updates to the developer editions of its Chrome and Chromium software, building on the Safe Browsing API’s. The new update now provides users of both Chrome and Chromium protection against malicious file downloads altering them whenever any are detected.
The experimental new feature has been released to the Chrome Development Channel for testing, and will initially alert against malicious Windows executables.
This warning (pictured above) will be displayed for any download URL that matches the latest list of malicious websites published by the Safe Browsing API.
The new feature follows the same privacy policy currently in use by the Safe Browsing feature and does not enable Google to determine the URLs you are visiting.
