Google has released a new version of their Google Inbox by Gmail app for Apple’s iOS devices, and the new version of the app now comes with an iPad version.
Google Inbox is currently only available on an invite-only basis, although anyone can download the app from Apple’s app store.
The release notes that came with the latest version of the app did not mention that Google was launching an iPad version of the app; instead, it said that the update included some bug fixes.
Features of Google Inbox
Google Inbox by Gmail is designed to help users manage their emails more efficiently. It offers a range of features that aim to streamline the email experience. One of the standout features is the “Bundles” functionality, which groups similar emails together. For example, all your purchase receipts or social updates can be bundled into one group, making it easier to manage and review them.
Another notable feature is the “Highlights” function, which extracts key information from emails, such as flight itineraries, event details, and photos, and displays them prominently. This allows users to get the most important information at a glance without having to open each email individually.
The app also includes “Reminders” and “Assists,” which help users keep track of tasks and provide useful information to complete them. For instance, if you set a reminder to call a store, the app might provide the store’s phone number and operating hours.
Why the iPad Version Matters
The introduction of the iPad version of Google Inbox is significant for several reasons. Firstly, it expands the app’s usability to a larger screen, making it more convenient for users who prefer to manage their emails on a tablet rather than a smartphone. The larger screen real estate allows for a more comfortable and efficient email management experience, especially for users who deal with a high volume of emails daily.
Secondly, the iPad version supports multitasking features such as Split View and Slide Over, which are particularly useful for power users who need to manage their emails while working on other tasks simultaneously. This makes the app more versatile and adaptable to different workflows.
Lastly, the iPad version of Google Inbox aligns with Google’s broader strategy of making its services accessible across multiple devices and platforms. By offering a seamless experience across smartphones, tablets, and desktops, Google aims to keep users within its ecosystem, thereby increasing user engagement and loyalty.
You can now download the updated version of the Inbox by Gmail app from iTunes, although in order to use the app, you will need an invite from Google. If you haven’t received an invite yet, you can request one from Google or ask a friend who already has access to send you an invite.
