Over the next couple of days, Google is rolling out a new update to its Google Docs service that will enable you to provide access to users to view documents and allow comments, without full edit access.
Once it’s been added by Google to your Google Docs account, to give comment-only access to your document, click on the “Share” button. From there, add in the contact you’d like to share your document with, and select “Can comment,” as in the screenshot below.
How to Use Comment-Only Access
Any users who have comment-only access to view your documents can add comments throughout the document, without the ability to change the content of the document directly. This feature is particularly useful for collaborative projects where feedback is needed without the risk of unintended edits. For instance, teachers can use this feature to provide feedback on student assignments, or team members can suggest changes and improvements on a shared project without altering the original content.
To further enhance the collaborative experience, Google Docs allows users to tag specific people in comments by using the “@” symbol followed by the person’s email address. This ensures that the tagged individual receives a notification about the comment, making it easier to address feedback promptly.
