Yesterday stories were making the rounds that Foxconn CEO Terry Gou had said that the company was getting its facilities ready to produce the Apple HDTV. Foxconn has now come back and said that the reports that Gou have confirmed the company would be working on an Apple HDTV are inaccurate.
Foxconn really had no choice but to deny the statement whether or not it was accurate because Apple would surely come down hard on the company.
Foxconn is now claiming that it’s CEO “neither [confirmed] nor [speculated] about Foxconn’s involvement in the production of any product.” The original report came from a Chinese website called ChinaDaily. Perhaps Gou didn’t mean the TV was definitely coming, but rather the company was getting ready in case it landed the contract.
I’m sure once that story got around Foxconn had to backtrack quickly because Apple doesn’t take kindly to security leaks. Foxconn said in a statement, “Any reports that Foxconn confirmed that it is preparing to produce a specific product for any customer are not accurate.”
