A very unique levitating light called Flyte that has been created by Simon Morris based in Stockholm, Sweden. The light uses magnets to float the bulb in mid air which is then powered by induction technology and can also be used to charge your smartphone during the day.
Flyte is available to back for $199 to early bird backers and will be retailing for up to $529. Morris has also made a Flyte Makers Kit available for $149 that allows you to create your very own “levitating thingy”.
Watch the video below to learn more about the inspiration and design behind this unique light and its construction. Morris explains :
“The world moves so fast, so take a break from gravity and experience something surreal that appears suspended in time. FLYTE requires no batteries and powers light through the air via induction.
The FLYTE Maker Kit includes a base and a magnet with 4 ultra bright LEDs powered wirelessly via induction. Share it with your friends, or combine them to make multiple levitating light sculptures. Light will rotate slowly around the room. We can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with.
Designed in Sweden, the FLYTE base is made of sustainable-sourced oak, ash and walnut. We want your FLYTE to look good, feel good and last a long time. We use energy efficient LEDs rated at about 50,000 hours. That’s 12 hours a day for 11 years! “
