There have been watches with e-ink displays on them for a long time now. E-ink screens are perfect for watches with small batteries because the screen only needs power when the time is updated allowing the watch to run longer. A new e-ink watch called the FES Watch has turned up in Japan seeking funding via a Japanese crowdfunding site called Makuake.
The watch is called the FES Watch and it sues e-ink displays for the face and the band. You can choose the color, between black and white, and pattern on the watch face and the upper and lower sections of the band. This allows you to customize the watch with one of 24 different designs at the touch of a button.
The FES Watch had a successful funding round on Makuake in September raising about $23,000 USD. It is back again for another funding round seeking about $8,400 USD. The downside to this cool watch for those outside Japan is that you can only pledge if you live in Japan. This is the perfect time to have a Japanese friend who will front you about $167 to pledge for your own version of the watch. The FES Watch has no smart features.
