Bethesda has this week revealed that anyone hoping to play the recently announced Fallout 4 on the older generation Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 console, will never get the chance.
It was rumoured that perhaps a version of Fallout 4 would be made available for the Xbox 360 and PS3 but Bethesda community manager Matt Grandstaff has confirmed that this will not be the case. Over on NeoGAF, Grandstaff explained: “It is not coming to 360 and PS3,”-“The stuff we’re doing will never work there.” The new Fallout 4 that extends the game series was announced last week for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Technical Limitations of Older Consoles
The decision to exclude the Xbox 360 and PS3 from the list of supported platforms is primarily due to the technical limitations of these older consoles. Fallout 4 is designed to take full advantage of the advanced hardware capabilities of the newer generation consoles and PCs. The game features a highly detailed open world, complex AI, and intricate physics that simply cannot be handled by the older hardware. For instance, the Xbox 360 and PS3 have significantly less RAM and weaker GPUs compared to the Xbox One and PS4, making it impossible to deliver the same level of graphical fidelity and performance.
Moreover, the development team at Bethesda has incorporated new gameplay mechanics and features that require the enhanced processing power of modern systems. This includes more dynamic environments, improved character animations, and a more immersive world overall. Attempting to scale down these features to fit the older consoles would not only compromise the game’s quality but also require a substantial amount of additional development time and resources.
What to Expect at E3
You can expect more Fallout 4 details to be made available by Bethesda during the E3 games event next week in Los Angeles. The Bethesda’s E3 Showcase will also be available on Sunday, June 14th at 7:00pm PT to see the world premiere of the game. Fans are eagerly anticipating new gameplay footage, storyline details, and perhaps even a release date announcement. The E3 event is a significant platform for game developers to showcase their upcoming titles, and Bethesda is expected to pull out all the stops for Fallout 4.
In addition to the main game, there is speculation about potential downloadable content (DLC) and expansions that could be announced. Bethesda has a history of supporting their games post-launch with substantial DLC, and fans are hopeful that Fallout 4 will receive the same treatment. This could include new quests, additional areas to explore, and even new gameplay mechanics.
The anticipation surrounding Fallout 4 is palpable, and the decision to focus on newer consoles and PC ensures that the game will be able to deliver the best possible experience. While it may be disappointing for those who have not yet upgraded their gaming systems, the move is a necessary one to push the boundaries of what is possible in the Fallout universe.
