Researchers at Manchester University in the UK have been busy figuring out how to bring facial recognition to mobile devices.
With most modern phones now having front facing cameras it surely wont be long until mobile phone facial recognition is used in our daily lives. Allowing our faces to replace pin numbers and paswords. Watch the video after the break to see the software in action.
“Existing mobile face trackers give only an approximate position and scale of the face,” said Dr Phil Tresadern, lead researcher on the project. “Our model runs in real-time and accurately tracks a number of landmarks on and around the face such as the eyes, nose, mouth and jaw line.
These new developments will definitely provide interesting new features for mobile phone developers to incorporate user interactions to control our phones in the future.
